Sue Edmunds, Associate Vice President for University Advancement

Veronika is working on a story about a new Dean. She is also on the phone with a local reporter and has another on hold. Coby is finishing a brochure for season tickets for football and is planning several athletic kick-off events. Kevin is developing a series of brochures, which will be used by the Recruitment Office to highlight each of the fifty-plus academic departments at ULM . In addition, he is working on several other publications. Vanessa and Renee are finishing the writing and layout of the University magazine. Soon, they will turn their attention to the Alumni Newsletter and the next edition of Smoke Signals. Richard has several events he must photograph. Claudia is scouring area newspapers to ensure that our press releases are in them. The entire staff is working on a big ULM/Community event scheduled for September 9th. An unusual day at University Relations? Not at all. In fact, it is very much a typical day.

As the newest member of the University Relations Department, I’ve been amazed by the energy and commitment of this staff. University Relations, formerly called the Office of Public Affairs, falls under the Division of Advancement and External Affairs led by Dr. Don Skelton. He has put together an extremely talented and dedicated team who work tirelessly to promote ULM .

The department is responsible for designing and developing the university publications. These include the university magazine, the alumni newsletter, Smoke Signals, the athletic marketing literature, recruitment literature, annual reports, and special presentations. The department is also responsible for university photography, media releases, press conferences, advertising, and special events.  The staff is meticulous about their work and they strive to produce the finest publications, events, and announcements for our university.

But, we are only as good as the information we receive. We can only write about the people, places and things, we know about. If there is big news in your department and you don’t share it with us, we can’t get the word out to the community. In order to share your information, we need to hear from you.

One note of caution must be added, as much as we work to publicize each and every event, award, and recognition that occurs at ULM , we can’t guarantee that the local media will run the story. We do promise to do our best to publicize your news. You can contact us at 342-5440.
