Another Successful Year for Dr. Mehendale's Toxicology Students

This year again, Dr. Harihara Mehendale’s students won many national and international awards and recognitions for their research papers and presentations.

Dr. Satheesh S. Anand, a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Mehendale's Laboratory from March 2001 to August 2003, received a Travel Grant Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington , D.C., in November 2003. Dr. Anand is continuing his research enrichment experience as a post doctoral associate at the University of Georgia , Athens .

Dr. Murali Badanthadka received a Travel Grant Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington, D.C., in November 2003; and the Best Paper Award at the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), Experimental Biology (EB’04) meeting in Washington, D.C., in April 2004. As part of this Award, he was invited to attend the 54th SB’04 meetings in San Diego April 2-6, 2005, at their travel expense ($500) and to serve a one-year term on the Council of the Drug Metabolism Division of ASPET as a young scientist.

Jaya Chilakapati received a Travel Grant Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington , D.C., in November 2003; the Colgate Palmolive - Society of Toxicology Student Research Training Award in Alternative Methods and the Campbell’s Soup Travel Award, at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Society of Toxicology in Baltimore , Md., in March 2004.

Sachin Devi received the Academy of Toxicological Sciences Travel Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington, D.C., in November 2003; the Student Travel Award, and the Best Paper Award, Comparative and Veterinary Specialty Section, at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Society of Toxicology in Baltimore, Md., in March 2004; the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) Travel Award from the Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology (FASEB) at the Experimental Biology Meeting in Washington, D.C., in April 2004; and the Second Place Award, Best Poster presentation at the 2004 ULM Symposium on April 28, 2004.

Ankur Dnyanmote received the Quintiles Travel Grant Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington , D.C., in November 2003; and the Best Platform Presentation Award at the 2004 ULM Symposium on April 28, 2004 .

Midhun Korrapati received the Quintiles Travel Grant Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington, D.C., in November 2003; the Travel Award from the South Central Chapter-Society of Toxicology and the Honorable Mention Award for Best Manuscript at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Society of Toxicology in Baltimore, Md., in March 2004.

Pallavi Limaye received the Best Poster Presentation Award at the South Central Chapter-Society of Toxicology Meeting in Shreveport, La., in October 2003; the Academy of Toxicological Sciences Travel Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington, D.C., in November 2003; and the 3rd Place Best Paper Award at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Society of Toxicology in Baltimore, Md., in March 2004.

Sharmilee Sawant received the Arthur Furst Best Paper Award-American College of Toxicology, and a Travel Grant Award at the 24th Annual Conference of the American College of Toxicology in Washington , D.C., in November 2003; a Student Travel Award, the Frank C. Lu Best Paper Award, the Best Student Abstract, and the Burdock Travel Award at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Society of Toxicology in Baltimore, Md., in March 2004.; a Student Travel Award from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) and the Third Place Best Paper Award, Division of Toxicology, Pharmacology (ASPET) Society, at the 53rd Annual Conference of the Experimental Biology in Washington, D.C., in April 2004; and finally, the Best Poster Award at the 2004 ULM Symposium on April 28, 2004.
