The Research Hub Mini-Grant Program
offers support for faculty research activities. Its primary purpose is to
provide seed money to attract extramural funding or to assist faculty members
with taking initial steps toward research projects. Proposals are evaluated
and grants awarded by the Research Hub Committee.
Funds will be distributed by
competitive mini-grants available to CEHD faculty. Mini-grants are
available in two tiers. Tier 1 in the amounts of up to $500 and Tier 2 from
$501= $1000. Applications for mini-grant funding may be accessed through

Deadlines:
Applications
will be considered twice annually:
Spring Grant Application Deadline: November 1st (Grant
period January through August)
Fall Grant Application
Deadline: April 1st (Grant period is May through December)
Guidelines
- Mini-grants are available to
full-time faculty members who wish to begin or continue a research project in
two tiers:Tier 1 up to $500 or Tier 2 from $501 to $1000
- Application Packet must
include:
o Completed
Project Proposal that explains the project, the methodology to be used,
expected outcome and how the funds will be utilized.
o 2-page
curriculum vita containing activities and publications that support faculty
member’s expertise to carry out the proposed work.
- Funds can be used for almost any
aspect of a research project. Funds cannot be used to supplement
salaries. Purchase of equipment or software, printing, postage, data searches,
data collection, and student stipends are among the services for which
mini-grant funds can be used.
- Proposals involving
human subject research are subject to the requirements of the University
Institutional Review Board http://www.ulm.edu/research/irb.html
- A final report
summarizing the outcomes of the project with a completed budget detailing the
use of funds must be submitted to the Research Hub Committee within one month
of the end of the grant period
o Spring
Grant – Report due October 1st (Grant period January through
August)
o Fall
Grant – Report due February 1st (Grant period May through
December)
- The Research Hub committee
reserves the right to accept or deny applications based on availability of
funds.
- Report of expenses must follow

Evaluation of Proposals
- The scholarly merit of the
proposal and its value to the faculty member, the college and the
university.
- Evaluation of Tier 2 proposals
will be held to more stringent standards than tier 1 proposals.
- The qualifications of the
faculty member.
- Quality of the proposal - should
be directed to general audience; provide clear description, clarify
terminology.
- Realistic budget – Will the funds
requested be sufficient to complete the project?
- The feasibility of the proposal
and the ability of the faculty member to successfully complete the project.
- Other sources of funding,
including both internal and external (endowed professorship, grant, etc.).
