W

he advising process provides pre-social work majors and social work majors with opportunities for participating in personal, academic, and career self-assessment. The advisement of social work students is an important component of the Department of Social Work. In order to ensure that courses are taken in proper sequence, pre-social work and social work majors are required to see an advisor prior to registering by phone. Pre-registration advising begins as soon as the class schedules are available. Specific dates assigned for pre-registration advising in the department are announced in social work classes during the Fall and Spring semesters. All students entering the Social Work Program are classified as pre-social work majors. These students are advised by designated pre-social work faculty advisors until they meet the requirements for admission into the social work major. After admission into the social work major, students are randomly assigned to another full-time social work faculty advisor. To be advised, students are expected to:

1. Obtain his or her folder from the Department of Social Work secretary in Stubbs 217.
2. Make an appointment with his or her advisor. Appointment schedules will be posted on the office doors of faculty advisors.

After the student is advised, their advising flag will be removed and they will be allowed to register on Arrow.
