The University
of Louisiana
at Monroe
has provided me with an opportunity to help a lot of students in their
career
development. We are
concerned about
students’ preparation for a career in a sociology related
area. Sociology
provides you with a solid
educational experience that is more practical than theoretical. I chose sociology for my
professional career about
40 yrs ago because of desire to be a quality professor and because of
the benefits
of sociology in helping us to understand better our society and our
relationships within society.
Some ten
years ago, a part of my focus in sociology turned
to studying and teaching about issues related to aging – the
discipline of
gerontology. Combining
my interest in
criminal behavior with gerontology has opened a new area of interest in
our
aging inmate population. My
latest
interest, which came out of a personal experience, is with male
caregivers.
Sociology and gerontology provide you with a range of
opportunities if you desire to pursue them.
