Student Success Stories - 2007
“I am currently pursuing a grant to continue the freedom and responsibility research already conducted at ULM. The study will examine the perceptions held by addictive disorder populations located in and around the greater Monroe area. The study has the opportunity to impact the understanding of the social sciences, medical community, and business community in regards to addictive disorder populations processing of information."
"The SSRL is aiding in the refining of my ability to author not only grants but also publishable scientific articles. The practical application of my research-based psychology degree is allowing me to pursue personal, as well as professional, goals for my education and career. In doing so I am creating future opportunities for myself.”
Chris Pierot, Psychology major
“I started working with the Better Business Bureau as the principle investigator on a project concerning attitudes of local businesses toward the BBB.
My responsibility as student project leader included coordinating meetings and weekly laboratory times with other student researchers, as well as seeking out funding for future studies with the BBB. Along with students from psychology and marketing, I designed the questionnaire as the instrument used to determine the attitude of businesses and received internship credit hours.”
Joshua Felts, Psychology major
"Last semester I worked with the Children's Coalition on a project as an intern. Through a grant received by the coalition, I was asked to stay on to continue my work as a research associate.
Essentially, the SSRL provided for me the opportunity to use research as the vehicle to which I was able to deliver the skills I had learned in college. It was that missing link that many students lack in preparing for life after college."
Hannah Hammons, Political Science major
