2008 Summer Camps

SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM
This summer program is held at the Activity Center and is for kids who want to have a good time enjoying games, sports, art, and fitness activities. Program runs for 10 weeks. Participants can be signed up for one week or all ten.
Ages: 5-12
June 2-August 8, 7:15 a.m.-5:45 p.m.
Fee: $50 registration fee and $80.00 per week to be paid bi-weekly or monthly.
Campers bring their own lunch and snacks.

VIDEO GAME MAKING
Students will learn how to design and modify their own exciting arcade style video game. They will learn how to control characters, objects and outcomes in their games, then increase the difficulty level and add more features. Students will design their own version of PacMan and several others. Students will leave this camp with their video game on a CD to take play on their own home computer.
Ages 8 and older

LEGO ENGINEERING CLASSES
Two LEGO® Engineering classes will be offered. Each student will have the opportunity to work in a lab-type setting with LEGO Educational Division Materials and LEGO Technic Elements kit for each two students. The courses are designed to start 5 to 12 year olds off with the fundamentals, and then lead them through more complex projects until they are able to build and program a working robot by themselves. The objectives of each course are to encourage hands-on (tactile) learning, promote team building, allow creativity in construction and to have fun with basic science and mathematics.

LEGO-Junior Engineering 1
Using advanced LEGO® parts and pieces, this class is appropriate for children ages 5-7. Students build and work with models to investigate fixed and movable pulleys, gears and belt drives.

LEGO-Elementary Engineering 1
Using very advanced LEGO® parts and pieces, this class is appropriate for children 8 years and up. Course covers gears, levers, wheels, axles, structures, forces and simple machines.

PREP ACADEMY OF MUSIC PROGRAM
"At Home in the World"
Ages: 4-5, 5-6, 7-8
July 14-18, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Will consist of songs, movement, exposure to instruments, drama, crafts, music appreciation and much more.

"Intro to Drumming"
Ages: 7-10, 11-15
July 14-18, 8:45-11:30 a.m.
Learn how to play with drumsticks, improvise and play in a group. Also includes a music appreciation/composition component.

Cost is $125 per child plus $20 registration fee. Registration fee will be waived if child was enrolled in the academy during the 2007-2008 school year. For information call 342-1597.

TALENTED AND GIFTED DAY CAMP
Programs designed especially for children with high potential.

SUMMER SWIM TEAM
The summer program will be held at the ULM Natatorium from May 27-July 3, Monday through Friday, from 8-9:30 a.m. League will focus on having fun while learning and improving the four basic competitive strokes. Child must be able to swim 25 yards with rhythmic breathing.
Cost is $150 for one child, $100 for each additional child. Open registration throughout the summer program.

DIVE INTO GUARD START (JUNIOR LIFE GUARD)
Can you swim with your head in the water? If you can and you are an 11-14 year-old who is interested in becoming a lifeguard --sign up and swim away while learning water safety, CPR, and first aid. You could become certified in First Aid.
