February 10, 2010:
Louisiana Technology Challenge takes place!

A list of all deadlines.
A bright future for Louisiana!
For Participating Students
This competition is designed to reward students, like you, who use technology for learning and in daily life.

If you participate in your school's team, you will:
  • Enjoy a team activity that involves some interesting tasks during a school day.
  • Represent your team in an annual state-wide online competition.
  • Have the opportunity to win, with your team, a trophy for your school.
  • Get a complimentary T-shirt whether your team wins or not. (This donation is made possible by ULM or possible sponsor, if it is fiscally possible.)
  • Distinguish yourself as one of the participating members of a school technology team. Why is this important? This really looks great on your academic record if and when you apply to a university or for a job!
  • Get recognition, praise, and... respect.
  • Hopefully, your work will be recognized as exemplary. If this is the case, your file(s) may be distributed by the organizers of this event to educators throughout Louisiana. Your school team will receive acknowledgment for excellent work.
What Do I Need To Do?
Your school needs to have a Team Coach. Ask your principal who the Team Coach for your school is. Then, contact the Team Coach. The Team Coach can be any adult who works at your high school as teacher, administrator, or staff member. Every high school in Louisiana is entitled to enter a single team composed of a maximum of 15 students, under the guidance of the school's designated "Team Coach".

What Should I Know?
During regular school hours, on the day of the Technology Challenge, your team will meet to compete during the morning. Your team will complete a number of creative tasks. Teamwork is a must. You should be familiar with searching the Internet for reliable information, doing word processing (Word), making presentations (Powerpoint), and maybe knowing how to some spreadsheet editing (Excel). Although you don't have to "know everything", you should be able to contribute in a productive way.

What Should I Show My Family?
You can print out a 1-page poster and show it to your family.

Requirements
There are deadlines for these requirements:
1. A designated Team Coach selects a team of up to 15 students and sends in a
completed team application with a check to pay for a team application fee. The fees are modest to cover processing the applications.
2. Participating students are excused from classes during the time of the competition.
3. The competition begins when files are accessed from an online account on the day of the competition and ends when the completed files are electronically uploaded  to a designated online account.
4. Team work is essential. Be prepared to work together.

5. While it's not guaranteed, or required, it is recommended that each team have a pizza party to celebrate completing the Technology Challenge!

What Are The Rules?

  • Registered students of the school team may participate.
  • This is a team effort with a timed deadline.
  • Your team will complete a series of challenging tasks in a relatively short time.
  • No adults will help you find answers or assist with the completion of the tasks.  Only minimal technical assistance is allowed.
