student leader, mentor
Chasline Fontenot is a junior health studies major from Mamou.
I am an only child.
As an incoming freshman in the PREP program, I grew to love ULM's overall hospitality and willingness to assist students. I also liked the area and size of the campus, along with its upkeep. ULM has become my home away from home.
I am a member of the 2009 Prep Staff, Campus Activites Board, Hometown Hawks, Health Studies Student Association, and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. I am also a University 101 Peer Leader and a ULM Hawkseeker. I currently work at the Youth/Novice House in Monroe, where I serve as a tutor and mentor for young girls.
My goal is to become the CEO of a hospital so I can make health care changes that benefit those who are currently unable to afford health care. I also desire to open a facility for young girls.
My favorite spot on campus is the deck that sits on the bayou. The scenery is beautiful and refreshing. It’s a nice way to get away from everything.
One of my favorite professors is Deanna Buczala, my Chemistry 101 professor. She made learning fun; she created a relaxed and pleasant environment. She also provided opportunities for students to receive assistance outside of regular classroom sessions.
My favorite memories at ULM have been my experiences on PREP Staff. This experience provided a mechanism for representing ULM through fun-loving, high-spirited exercises that make incoming freshmen aware of all that ULM has to offer. The spirit competition allowed us to demonstrate our "Warhawk Pride." It was amazing to see everyone get involved.
Since arriving at ULM, I have become more comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people. I have been taught the true meaning of leadership, and I have learned how to adapt to change.
Most people don't know that I am a country girl at heart. I love camping, fishing, riding horses and four-wheelers with family and friends.
