sharpening skills, tailgating before games
Micah Pulliam is from Downsville. Micah, a senior accounting major, attended school in West Monroe.
I am a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) Fraternity, Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Fraternity, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, InterFraternity Council, and the Presidential Lyceum Series Committee. I work in the accounting department for my parents' companies. It is rewarding to apply what I learn in the classroom to real world business.
My ultimate goal is to become a CEO/CFO of a mid-sized to large-sized company. I would like to graduate in accounting and get my Certified Managerial Accounting license and my Certified Public Accounting license after I pursue my MBA. People who have known me for a long time know that I belong in the business world. My parents own their own companies, and they have instilled their values of hard work and dedication in me. I want to take an active role in managing today's work force.
My favorite spot would have to be the new Student Union Building and the Student Center. I spend several hours working in the Student Government office, located in the Student Center. It’s nice to work and then hang out with my friends between classes in the SUB.
Dr. Aleecia Hibbets, an accounting professor, is one of those professors who will go above and beyond to help her students. After taking her course, I learned that if I focus, believe in what I am doing, and work hard, anything is possible. Her teachings are the reason I am seeking a managerial accounting career.
One of my favorite memories is joining my fraternity, the PIKE Fraternity, and joining SGA. Another favorite would be visiting with Mr. Steve Forbes during the Presidential Lyceum Series last year. I’ve also really enjoyed tailgating at the football games in the Grove where I hang out with my friends, fraternity brothers, and even some of my professors before a home football game … ESPN this year was absolutely crazy. GO Warhawks!!!
ULM has helped me grow in so many ways. SGA has required me to take on a leadership role and serve my fellow students. Working with ULM administrators and staff has helped me build relationships that will last long after graduation. Those same relationships required me to sharpen my communication skills. ULM has offered me a social environment where I have been able to grow socially and to work on my social skills with my fellow peers, teachers, and leaders in the community. This enabled me to grow as a person, and it will better suit me for the world after college.
