Edgar Allen Poe

To Helen:
What's a bark? ("Nicean barks")
What do you think a "perfumed sea" would smell of?
Okay, so there he is metaphorically on a perfumed sea. Where does he want to be? Where do you think that is exactly?
Is there a picture of the hyacinth plant in your dictionary? What would "hyacinth hair" look like?
There's that word "home" again.
Suddenly in stanza three, we are jerked out of the water and in a new place, maybe the place the poet's voice is *actually* at. Can you describe that place?

"agate lamp" -- My dictionary tells me that agate is a stone. There is a related word--agata, a kind of 19th century colored glass.

Not the man himself

Annabel Lee:
Can there be such a thing as a "love that was more than love"? Isn't that a
contradiction? If it's more than love, how could it be love?
Who was jealous of this love? (more than one party)
What caused the death of Annabel?
Where does he sleep at night?
My dictionary doesn't have the word "dissever" in it. Does yours? If not what do you think it means?
