Blake's Experience

A state of being in which a person knows so much of the world's injustice that he or she becomes cynical and bitter.  The resulting anger and hatred in this state of mind makes a person incapable of acting in such a way as to effect positive change in the world. This state of being is "contrary" (Blake says) to innocence.

Blake's "Infant Sorrow" succinctly expresses this state of mind and being.
