Use ULM WebMail for your class email

Receiving your tribe email

Using ULM WebMail is optional.  You can continue to use your personal and most commonly used email if you follow the instructions by clicking here.

Tribe email is a little slow but has all the functions of most email utilities:  Compose and Send, Reply, Delete, Attachment, etc.

However, it has the advantage of keeping all your class email completely separated from personal email.  You can see at a glance what is happening in class this way.

Your Tribe Email account has a 2 MB storage limit, so keep the junk cleaned out of it by deleting regularly.

There are several possible ways to access your tribe email account:

Alternative 1:  Go directly to the ULM webmail page Username        firstsixlettersofyourlastnamefirstandmiddleinitial
[All one word, lower-case; this is your tribe account username; may vary]

Password        SSI #

(same as your Blackboard username and address)

Alternative 2:  Set up a new account using your tribe address <username@tribe.ulm.edu> in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
Using a third party email utility like Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook helps you organize your email.  Outlook Express also works more quickly and avoids the space limitations of Tribe email.

However, it has the disadvantage of mixing together email from class and personal email.

You must use your tribe email address, whether you set your email up in a third party email utility or use Webmail, for receiving class email.

Sending email to the class

If you want to send email to an individual or a couple of fellows in class, Webmail or Outlook Express will work fine for you.  However, you may occasionally be asked to send email to the whole class.  In that case, you will want to use Blackboard's email utility:

You can attach documents and graphics to these Blackboard emails using the the Attachment function under the text field.
