| Background
Danny Hutton was hired as Technology
Specialist for the College of Education in August of 1997.
His anticipated role was to bridge the gap between technology and
education and to facillitate the solution of problems involving
technological issues.
Danny has worked in the computer field for many years as a
private consultant. His experience covers both IBM compatible and
Macintosh systems as well as various other equipment and computer
systems. He has worked as a programmer and database developer
creating software in a variety of computer languages.
Much of Danny's background has centered around less technical
endeavors. Many people find strange the fact that his
undergraduate degree was in Psychology. Danny explains that the
Psychology degree has helped immeasurably since few problems
involving computers center exclusively on the machinery. Too
often technical problems are more the result of personal
interactions with the equipment, incorrect perceptions about the
equipment, or a frustrated attempt to blame the equipment.
Sometimes a little dose of psychology works better than a
complete computer diagnostic system.
Most problems are actually a deficit in one of three areas.
People need good tools, good training, and good technical
support. Any one of these that is missing leads to problems. This
three legged model helps define potential problems and, more
importantly, potential solutions, for problematic situations.
In 2003, Danny was transferred to
the University Computing Center but remained assigned to the College of
Education and Human Development. He continues to serve the
University Computing Center with primary emphasis in The College of
Education and Human Development where his office is located.
