Summer Program

About the Program:

In order to encourage continued student involvement in research through the summer months, ULM's Howard Hughes Undergraduate Research Program will award two Summer Research Awards each of the four years of the grant's duration.  The program will allow undergraduate students to work on independent research projects under the direction of faculty mentors.

Starting in 2005, an additional two Summer Research Awards will be offered each year to undergraduate students from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.  These students will participate in research projects at ULM.  Xavier students interested should follow the Xavier Summer Program link.

These awards will consist of a $3000 stipend for a 10-week off-campus research experience.  Interested students should submit an application to the Hughes Advisory Committee including a report of their previous research activities.  Students will be informed by the Grant Coordinator of summer research opportunities.  To download the PDF version of the application, follow the link.  Application deadline for Summer 2007 is February 16, 2007.

In order to accommodate most students, ULM has developed a partnership with Louisiana State University.  LSU has established an exceptional Summer Research Program over the last decade. Together, the programs not only provide invaluable technical training but also a student community atmosphere.  This is accomplished through common dormitory arrangements and planned group activities.  For more information visit the web page at LSU's Undergraduate Summer Research Program.
