MINUTES FOR CAC MEETING

February 7, 2007

The College Administrative Council (CAC) met in the Nursing Conference room from 2:00-4:30.

Dr. Corder called the meeting to order.

In Attendance: Dr. Jan Corder, Juliet Burgess, Dr. Jessica Dolecheck, Emmy Doughty,  Dr. Judy Fellows, Dr. Florencetta Gibson, Jay Hicks, Beverly Jarrell, Donna Eichhorn for Peggy Meredith, Belinda Morgan, Dr. Paxton Oliver, and Debbie Wisenor.

1.   Dr. Richters.

Dr. Richters congratulated the college for it’s participation in the Bone Marrow Drive which 2,618 people donated at ULM and several extra sites have not been counted.  A special thank you was given to Debbie Wisenor and CLSC for the implementation and organization of the Drive.

Dr. Richters stated the university is doing well.  He stated that a 5 to 12% faculty pay raise is being discussed. Faculty pay is higher now than five years ago.   No higher tuition this year.  The university has received additional monies in the last couple of years, but it is all encumbered.

The university is trying to have a more flexible semester schedule.  Retention is being worked on for all students.  Freshmen student retention was 87% this year.  32% pass rate for Math.  Gateway courses are being discussed to help students pass the courses without sacrificing the quality of the course.  Math 110/111 will be broken down into 3 5-week modules.  The students enrolled in Math 110/111 will not be allowed to withdraw from the class.  They will test out of each 5 week module.  If they do not pass they will repeat that 5 week module.  If they pas they will go forward into the next 5 week module.  Students will receive a grade of NC after the first semester if they don’t pass on the 3 5-week modules.

There will be freshmen only sections for English, Psychology, History, Biology 114, 117, & 120, Chemistry 107, and Math 110 & 111.  Graduate students will be assigned to these sections to track the freshmen progress.  Freshmen will not be allowed to drop classes using ARROW in the first semester.  They will have to go to a PREP session.

The university is also looking into Hybrid classes.  They may increase the number of these classes.  The university may get adjunct faculty to teach these courses, so the faculty course load is not as heavy and time consuming.

Professional fee increase is still being looked at by Dr. Richters and the board.

Nursing auditorium is being looked at again for repairs.

Dr. Richters took questions from the CAC members.

Dr. Gibson will send him an e-mail about the need for a warning sign for Microwave oven use in the SUB.  Dr. Gibson also asked if there will be a private snack shop in the Nursing student lounge.

Dr. Richters stated that The Louisiana Board of Supervisors determined that the 125

credit hours are necessary for degree requirements.

Dean Search – Dr. Richters has signed a contract with a search company.  This company

is developing a pool of qualified candidates for the Dean’s position, when the pool of         candidates is developed the committee will meet and start reviewing candidates.

Reorganization structure – Dr. Richters said that is starting to work.  Each college has the freedom to organize itself in such a way that allows the college mission to be successful.
