President's Academy

A college preparatory program designed specifically for high-ability high school students to discover the science behind a pandemic

The President’s Academy is a three-day college preparatory program held on the ULM campus designed to look at the science and law of pandemics. The academy simulates the outbreak of a pandemic and divides participants into teams of specialists that attempt to identify the problem, to develop a drug that can treat the disease, to create technology that can assist your team and control the flow of information, and to try a case that protects the legal rights of individuals.

Participants work in science laboratories, computer/virtual reality laboratories, and courtrooms with university faculty. This camp prepares students for a future major, offers a glimpse into future careers, and equips scholars with the soft skills to flourish in a competitive job market and global economy.

An Academy like no other...

The President’s Academy allows participants to major in one of four areas:students in pharmacy lab

Computer Science

Develop innovative technology in the Thomas J. Nicholson Virtual Reality Lab. See how technology changes the way we live, responds to crises, and conducts search and rescue operations, atmospheric science research, agriculture management, and 3-D mapping via our drone program activities.

Health Science

Find out what it takes to make it in the medical profession and see how medical professionals work together to treat different diseases; then try it yourself as you learn from faculty in the Kitty Degree School of Nursing, the College of Pharmacy, and the School of Sciences.

Law

Learn and argue the law as you try a case in the E. Orum Young Courtroom with the award-winning ULM Mock Trial team and local attorneys.

Physical Science

Work with faculty from the School of Sciences and learn how drugs are synthesized, developed, and tested for purity in state-of-the-art analytical laboratories.
