Preparatory program designed specifically for high-ability high school students

The President’s Academy is a five-day residential college preparatory program held on the ULM campus. This year we are partnering with CenturyLink (a Fortune 500 company) Escamilla and Poneck LLC (an international law firm) ANGUS Chemical Company, Ouachita Council on Aging, and four local hospitals (St. Francis Medical Center, University Health Conway, Monroe Surgical, and P&S Surgical) to provide externships in the fields of Computer Sciences, Law, Health Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Coupled with follow-up laboratory experiences with university faculty and college courses that equip scholars with the soft skills to flourish in a competitive job market, the President’s Academy offers high-ability high school student exclusive access to the global economy

What's an externship?

Externships are real world learning opportunities that take place at local businesses and hospitals with professionals in the field.

Computer Science

Get down to business and experience cutting-edge technology as you participate in mobile app development at CenturyLink, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the US. Explore innovative technology changing the way we live and conduct search and rescue operations, wildlife management, atmospheric science research, agriculture management, and 3-D mapping through our drone program activities.

Health Science

Find out what it takes to make it in the medical profession as you shadow professionals while they treat patients at United Health Conway, St. Francis Medical Center, P&S Surgical Hospital, and the Ouachita Council on Aging.


Learn and argue the law as you try a case in the E. Orum Young Courtroom with the ULM Mock Trial team and lawyers from the international law firm of Escamilla & Poneck, LLP.

Physical Science

Work with chemical engineers as you see how drugs are synthesized, developed and tested for purity in state-of-the-art analytical laboratories at ANGUS Chemical Company.

Who can apply?

Participation is limited to 65 academically motivated high school students who have the aptitude to participate in challenging and intensive real-life work experiences with world-class businesses and organizations. If you would like to find out more about the academy, you can inquire online.

Applicants must meet the following:

• Academic Requirements -minimum ACT 24 or 3.5 GPA

• Incoming Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors in Fall 2019

The completion of online applications is due by May 6. If you would like to receive college credit for attending the Academy, the collegiate application must also be completed by May 6.


Academy Fee

Academy costs cover room and board for five days on the ULM campus, instruction by faculty, all college course materials, transportation to externships, 1-hr college course credit*, Welcome Reception and Awards Banquet for parents and are valued at $1,500 per student. Support from the university and President Nick Bruno have allowed us to offer the academy for a reduced fee of $600 per student.

*Applicants must meet ULM Collegiate Admission Standards in order to earn 1-hour credit for the Academy.

Academy fees may be paid online or by check. If paying by check, please send a $600 check made payable to the order of "The University of Louisiana at Monroe" with the memo of "Presidents Academy" and mail to Dr. Joshua Stockley, Director, ULM President's Academy, at 700 University Avenue, Monroe LA 71209.

If you are selected you will be notified by May 13 and will receive the scholarship rate of $600 due by May 20
