Get the First Look at Paddleboat Donated to ULM

The University of Louisiana at Monroe is the recipient of a new paddleboat from LA Capitol Federal Credit Union. La Capital made the donation to ULM to enhance student life. Everyone is invited to get a first look at the paddleboat during ULM's "Groovin' at the Grove" during this week's "Spring Fever" activities. Representatives from La Capital will be on hand.

The Student Government Association is sponsoring "Groovin' in the Grove" today from 2-6 p.m. in the Grove. The SGA says there will be fun, food and prizes for everyone.

"Getting a paddle boat on campus was an idea that originated from the Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board. These groups are always looking for ways to provide more campus recreation for ULM students. The donation by La Capital will serve as another fun activity to offer the students. It will also allow them to explore Bayou Desiard. We could not be happier for the students. We thank all the folks at La Capital for this generous gift, "said Martha Upshaw, Assistant Director for Student Affairs at ULM.

Ronnie Dowling, Regional Manager of La Capital and Helene Pilgreen, retiring Regional Manager, were instrumental in donating the paddleboat to ULM.

"Basically La Capital has been the credit union for ULM since 1978. We have been a part of the University for several years we have always done everything we can to support the University. I am an alum of this university and I remember when we had canoe's on the bayou," said Dowling, "We look forward to working with ULM in the future."

The paddleboat will be available for students, faculty, and staff to check out and use on the bayou. It will be housed at Oxford Natatorium on campus.

ULM also now has six brand new canoes that can also be used on the bayou. To use this new equipment, go to the natatorium to check it out. The natatorium will also provide life jackets and paddles.

Also tonight, as part of Spring Fever, ULM's Campus Activities Board presents Better than Ezra and the Ying Yang Twins in concert tonight at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Tickets are $5 for students and $15 for non-students. The show starts at 8:00 p.m.
