Three senior undergraduate Health Studies students, Mia Piazza, Lynh Ho and Savannah Pendergrass, attended the LeadingAge Annual conference in New Orleans, Oct. 29-31 with more than 5,000 attending.
These three students attended the conference by applying for and receiving full scholarships through the LeadingAge organization. The students not only learned about innovative solutions used with today's aging population, but also participated in the Student Leadership Program where they were able to network with many other students and experts in this field while participating in leadership meetings.

The University of Louisiana Monroe Water Ski Team traveled to Bennett's Water Ski and Wakeboard School in Zachary, La., to compete in the 38th national championship of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association.
The Warhawks tallied 12,165 points in winning their second consecutive and 28th overall national team title since the inception of the tournament in 1979.

At a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Oct. 25, University of Louisiana Monroe officials announced that the $3 million polarimetric Doppler weather radar is fully operational and actively scanning the skies of northeastern Louisiana and the surrounding area. The event was at the ULM Doppler radar site on U.S. 80.
In 2012, ULM was awarded a $3 million grant through the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOSHEP) to acquire a Doppler weather radar. In 2015, Enterprise Electronics Corporation was awarded the winning bid to manufacture and construct ULM's Doppler weather radar.

Monday, the same college held a check presentation to recognize an alumnus' $60,000 contribution toward a superior graduate scholarship that will support Doctor of Pharmacy students.
The contribution was made by Dr. Salvador "Sal" Scaccia who received his Pharm.D. from ULM in 2002, which was the first Doctor of Pharmacy graduating class at ULM.
Scaccia said the scholarship is very important to him as a way to give back to his alma mater for the gratitude and the successes he has made in his pharmacy career.

Thanks to a $20,000 Creative Placemaking grant through the Delta Regional Authority, West Monroe can launch a new public art project.
On Wednesday, the DRA, in partnership with leading national arts and government organizations, announced it will invest $309,000 in the arts and culture in the Delta. West Monroe received one of only 16 grants.

Board of Regents approves licensure for medical school at ULM
The Louisiana Board of Regents on Wednesday, June 21, approved the application for licensure submitted by New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) to operate a College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Louisiana Monroe.
NYIT is a private, not-for-profit institution of higher education with domestic campuses in New York (Manhattan and Old Westbury, Long Island) and Arkansas.
NYIT and ULM have a nonbinding Memorandum of Understanding through which the two entities are exploring establishing a Monroe site of New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) on the ULM campus.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the University of Louisiana Monroe will host four events to raise public awareness and provide education on preventing sexual violence
The events are presented by the WellSpring and several campus groups, including ULM Counseling Center, Femhawks, Title IX Task Force and Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc.
Items for care packages for victims and survivors of sexual assault will be collected throughout the month. For lists of items needed, visit the Office of Recruitment, Sandel Hall 104 or Title IX Coordinator Office, Library 612.
The events are scheduled as following:
Monday: Sexual Assault Awareness Seminar at 5:30 p.m. in Nursing Auditorium.

North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP) today presented the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) a $30,000 check to fund an economic impact study of the Ouachita and Black Rivers. The study will assess the economic impact of the Ouachita-Black River system from South Central Arkansas to North Central Louisiana.
