Stephanie Pepper Scholarship Established at ULM

A Scholarship in the name of the University of Louisiana at Monroe graduate, Stephanie Pepper Sims, was officially established this morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Media Room on the 6th floor of the ULM Library. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pepper, parents of Stephanie, were on hand to sign documents establishing the fund in memory of their late daughter.

Howard Pepper said, "We would like to thank Dr. Welch and the members of the gerontology department for initiating the founding of this scholarship in memory of our daughter Stephanie Pepper Sims. Stephanie spent some of the most challenging and rewarding years of her life earning her masters of gerontology here at ULM. She loved learning and committed her life to helping others learn. We hope this scholarship will challenge gerontology students to higher levels of academic achievement as Stephanie did in her classroom. We believe that she would be delighted that her commitment to help others learn is continuing to be fulfilled through this scholarship."

The Stephanie Pepper Memorial Scholarship in Gerontology was established by friends and family to provide scholarships for deserving students. The value of the scholarship will be determined by funds available. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the recipient(s) must be a graduate student, have a minimum graduate 3.5 grade point average, be working towards a masters degree in gerontology, be female and a Louisiana resident. ULM's gerontology faculty will select the recipient(s).

"Stephanie was a special friend to us all. She was an excellent student. This scholarship will continue her commitment to education," said Dr. Dale Welch, Assistant to the Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Pepper Sims received both her undergraduate degree in psychology and her graduate degree in gerontology at ULM. Dr. G. Dale Welch, Assistant to the Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, ULM President James Cofer and other ULM faculty and staff were on hand for the scholarship signing.
