ULM Professor to Present Book at Literary Festival

On April 24, Gordon Harvey, assistant professor of history at ULM, will be part of a panel on civil rights in Alabama. In addition, he will present a synopsis of his book, A Question of Justice: New South Governors and Education, 1968-1976, to Alabama Bound, a celebration by the Birmingham Public Library in honor of authors born in, or living in Alabama.

Harvey's book examines the careers of three southern governors whose politics changed the way the nation viewed the South, by their abolishing Jim Crow segregation and the dual economies and educational systems in the South at that time.

Alabama Bound is an annual family event held at Birmingham's Central Library. Its goal is to celebrate the work of the state's writers with a day of readings and presentations by dozens of Alabama writers. For more information, see http://www.alabamabound.org.
