Community Leader Joins ULM Staff

Sue Edmunds, President of the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce, announced today that she would be resigning from her position effective April 19. She will join the staff at the University of Louisiana at Monroe as the Assistant Vice President for External Affairs, reporting to Dr. Don Skelton, Vice President for University Advancement and External Affairs.

Edmunds served as president of the chamber since 1995. During that time, she has been actively involved with ULM. She serves on the College of Business Advisory Board and assisted with one of ULM's strategic planning committees. Edmunds also participated in ULM's Reclaiming Our Campus event. More recently, she served on the steering committee working on the northeast Louisiana regional economic development effort.

James Cofer, President of ULM says, "We are pleased to have such a talented person join our staff. Sue will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this area of our university. ULM is vital to the success of northeast Louisiana and Sue understands that. With the chamber, she has worked tirelessly to improve the whole region. As a member of ULM's team she will continue that work."

Edmunds has enjoyed her work with the chamber and looks forward to working with Cofer and the staff at ULM. "This was a difficult decision. I loved working at the chamber and I am proud of our accomplishments," said Edmunds. "It has been a pleasure to work with Dr. Cofer and his staff on several projects over the years. I've been very impressed with them and am honored to have the opportunity to join the ULM team."

Chairman of the chamber's Board of Directors, Wade Bishop, states, "For the past nine years Sue has done a tremendous job of making our chamber the best organization it could possibly be. She is such a professional and has reflected that image for the chamber. The chamber board and its members hate to see her leave, but we are happy that she is staying in our community. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Sue in her position at ULM."

Edmunds will be responsible for the Office of University Relations, which includes media relations, marketing, graphic design, and publications. She will also serve as the chief communications officer for the university and will work in close collaboration with Skelton and Cofer.

Edmunds is a summa cum laude graduate of Louisiana Tech University. During her tenure at the chamber, the National Association of Membership Development presented the Award Of Excellence to the West Monroe Chamber, one of only three chambers so recognized in the United States.

Edmunds will join ULM in late April. Her appointment is subject to approval of the Louisiana Board of Supervisors.
