Paper Moon Announces Superstar Auditions

The Paper Moon Summer Theatre, a community based program of the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Division of Theatre and Dance, announces auditions for its upcoming production of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Auditions are scheduled for Tuesday, May 3rd at 7 p.m. in the Biedenharn Recital Hall on the ULM campus. All roles, of which there are many, are open. Community members from middle school age to adult are encouraged to audition. Performers are asked to prepare a song to sing (a CD/tape player and/or accompanist will be provided.) Movement/dance will also be included in the audition.

Jesus Christ Superstar views the last days of the life of Jesus as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Beginning as a hit concept album, Superstar became the first hard rock score, the first rock opera and the first Lloyd Webber musical to play on Broadway. It later transitioned into a highly successful film starring Ted Neely. Featured numbers include the title song, Gethsemane, Everything's All Right, Herod's Song and the classic I Don't Know How To Love Him.

Superstar rehearses evenings beginning May 22nd. Performances, with a live orchestra, are scheduled June 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee June 26th at 2 p.m. in Brown Theatre on the ULM campus. Local musicians and technicians interested in participating in the production are encouraged to contact the theatre.
