ULM Summer Orientation Begins This Week

Over 300 incoming freshman at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will be in Monroe to attend PREP (Preview Registration Environment Program) this Thursday and Friday, June 2-3. PREP is a two-day freshman orientation designed to introduce the academic, social, and cultural aspects of ULM and to promote a sense of dedication and pride among incoming students.

While at PREP, students will have an opportunity to schedule classes for the fall semester, visit their residence hall, and learn about the wide variety of activities and organizations at ULM. Students will also get the chance to meet in small group settings with a member of the ULM PREP Staff and other students who share similar interests and concerns.

According to Ashley Ellis, PREP Coordinator at ULM, one of the goals for PREP this year is for students to learn about university traditions and school spirit. Ellis said that's why she chose this year's PREP theme to be "ULM..It's Worth It."

"Our goal for PREP 2005 is to instill in our incoming freshmen why the University of Louisiana at Monroe is really "worth it," Ellis said. "I want students to leave PREP with the knowledge and confidence they need to feel empowered to take control of their own college education."

All incoming freshmen are required to attend PREP. Students are encouraged to attend the first session for which they are available in order to register for their desired classes.

The first two PREP sessions are already full but students can register for one of the following remaining sessions: June 15-16; June 29-30; and July 6-7. Reservations for PREP will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Incoming freshman who have not signed up for a PREP session can register online at www.ulm.edu or by calling (318) 342-7315/ 1-800-372-5127 or PREP@ulm.edu.
