Special preview of “Warplane” at ULM on Nov. 3

Friends of LPB and the Aviation Department at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will hold a special preview of Warplane, the new four-hour series about the history of planes in combat, Friday, Nov. 3 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Airway Science auditorium on campus.

Warplane producer Jared Lipworth will speak at the event, which is free and open to the general public. Lipworth will show clips from all four episodes of the series and answer questions from the audience.

Warplane tells the story of the evolution of air power, offering a radically different history lesson and tracing the bold technological leaps that hastened victory and changed the face of aerial combat forever. It uses archival footage, dramatic interviews, modern-day experiments and informative graphics to highlight the major innovations like the mounted machine gun interrupter gear, the jet engine, aerodynamic wings and radar-beating stealth design.

If you would like to attend this special preview, call Tonja Normand at 800-272-8161, extension 4289 or e-mail her at tnormand@lpb.org.

The series will air on PBS Wednesdays, Nov. 8 and 15, from 9 - 11 p.m. EST.

The Aviation and Military Museum of North Louisiana is hosting a tour of the museum from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at 701 Kansas St. on Nov. 3 before the presentation in the Airway Science auditorium.
