SBDC offers FastTrac and smart hiring/firing workshops

The ULM Small Business Development Center will offer a “FastTrac™ New Venture” class every Monday and Thursday evening, beginning April 23 and ending May 21, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the ULM Administration Building, Room 2-105.

FastTrac™ New Venture is reportedly a practical, comprehensive, and intensive business development program designed to assist entrepreneurs in getting their new ventures off to the right start or quickly developing the skills needed to grow their business.

It consists of 27 hours (nine sessions) of class work where entrepreneurs learn to identify business opportunities, research the market, develop business concepts, get solid information on how to finance and launch new ventures, and develop feasibility and business plans.

The cost is $200 per person or $250 per two persons on one project.

The ULM SBDC will offer a free “Smart Hiring and Safe Firing” workshop Tuesday, May 1 from 6 – 8 p.m at the ULM Administration Building, Room 2-105.

Today’s business owner/manager faces a number of key challenges when it comes to recruiting, selecting, managing, and terminating employees in their firm. Lawsuits against companies for discriminatory and offensive practices are at an all-time high.

Bruce Walker will discuss hiring the right people, screening, employee labor laws, employee testing, employment letters, and terminating employees who are unproductive or counterproductive for a small business.

The ULM SBDC provides quality, no-fee, confidential, one-on-one counseling services to potential and existing business owners; provides no-fee management and technical assistance services by appointment; conducts workshops and seminars to help small business people become better managers and to keep them informed about current events and changing trends in today’s business world; and maintains a resource library which includes statistical data, census figures, SBA publications, and a variety of other information.
