ULM Mortar Board chapter receives grant from national council

The Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society at the University of Louisiana at Monroe returned from the National Mortar Board Conference in Columbus Ohio July 27 – 29 with a $200 book-buying grant; the ULM chapter is one of only four to receive a grant from the National Council.

ULM Mortar Board President Raghda Khalid Elsayed and Martha Anderson, assistant dean of students and national alumni representative to Mortar Board, represented ULM at the national conference, held at Ohio State University.

"I am honored to be a member of Mortar Board because it values not only scholarship and leadership, but also service,” said Elsayed. “Our chapter is really excited about the fall semester because we will start working on the national project 'Reading is Leading'." The funds will enable the chapter to participate; the ULM group will purchase books to be distributed in the community.

The ULM chapter of Mortar Board, one of 223 chapters nationwide, was established in 1977. The mission of Mortar Board is to recognize college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service.
