Former ULM and NFL football stars return to ULM and support drive

Former ULM and NFL football stars Bubby Brister of Mandeville and Bob Lane of Monroe will make a special appearance at tomorrow’s Bone Marrow Drive in the SUB from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The drive will begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 7 p.m. ACE will visit the drive from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Lane, who lettered at ULM in 1981, played in the United States Football League with Birmingham Stallions. He was also drafted to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1982.

Brister, a two-year letter winner at ULM in 1984 and 1985, played the first seven years of his career in Pittsburgh and posted his best NFL season in 1990 when he started all 16 games and set career highs. The Steelers managed just one playoff win in Brister's tenure in Steel City and eventually, he moved on to brief stints with Philadelphia and the New York Jets before settling in Denver in 1997. There, he was able to cap his career with two Super Bowl rings and the chance to be a part of NFL history with the Broncos before retiring after the 1999 season, according to the Web site www.nfl.com.
