ULM’s Kappa Delta Sorority will host a Shamrock 5K/1 mile run Saturday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 – 10 a.m. at Kiroli Park to benefit the many children in the northeast Louisiana community who are victims of abuse and neglect.

In Ouachita Parish, there were reportedly more than 618 disclosed cases of child abuse and neglect in 2006 alone.

The registration fee is $21 for non-students and $16 for ULM students before Saturday, Feb. 16. Afterwards, the registration fee is $25 for non-students and $20 for ULM students. The registration fee includes a T-shirt, refreshments and other prizes. Registration will be available on-site beginning at 7:30 a.m. Applications may be picked up in and returned to the ULM Office of Student Life and Leadership (in the Student Center), or to Amy Robinson in the ULM Office of Recruitment and Admissions (Sandel Hall).

Eighty percent of the proceeds collected will remain in Louisiana, benefiting Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, Northeast Region. The remaining 20 percent will go to Prevent Child Abuse America, the sorority’s national philanthropy, for nationwide public awareness programs. The sorority will join thousands of Kappa Deltas across the country to raise funds to benefit the local affiliates and chapters of PCA America.
