National Panhellenic Council to present check to Life Choices Nov. 17

Kappa Delta, Phi Mu and Alpha Omicron Pi, the three National Panhellenic Council sororities at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, will present a donation totaling over $1,600 to Life Choices Pregnancy Resource Center Monday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. in the ULM Office of Student Life and Leadership. The donation is a result of the Panhellenic For Life Fundraiser that occurred at ULM Oct. 20-24.

Life Choices is a non-profit pregnancy resource center for young women to help them during a difficult, yet potentially rewarding time in their life. Some of the services include free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, pregnancy counseling, and a material assistance program.

The three sororities had a contest to see which one could raise the most money. In it, water jugs with the sororities’ names were set up in the Student Union Building and in the Quad. Kappa Delta won, raising $798.69, Alpha Omicron Pi came in second place by raising $450.75, and Phi Mu came in third place after raising $396.50.

“This was a good opportunity for all three sororities to work together for a philanthropic cause,” said Tricia Hawkins, promotions coordinator for Life Choices. “These ladies showed unity, compassion and generosity. The fundraiser was a great success.”

The prize for the winning sorority is a free newly renovated ballroom for their spring formal, donated by Vantage Health Insurance.
