ULM welcomes former ASHA president to campus March 13

ULM’s College of Health Sciences and the Department of Speech-Language Pathology will welcome Dr. Kate Gottfred, 2008 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association president, March 13. She is the featured speaker for ULM's 21st Annual SLP Spring Conference in the University Conference Center, located on the seventh floor of the library.

“We are honored to be hosting such a renowned figure as Dr. Gottfred,” said Dr. Johanna Boult, ULM SLP Interim Department Head. “The work of her non-profit organization, LEAP Learning Systems, is unmatched and stands as a testament to the positive effect that cross-disciplinary collaboration has on school success.”

Under Gottfred’s leadership, LLS has developed and implemented a system of support for language and literacy skill development for underserved children in the Chicago schools. Gottfred will be joined by co-presenter Mr. Michael Levesque, the executive director of LLS.

The presentation will focus on the topic "Language for Scholars: Effective Tools for Advancing Student Communication Skills." The conference, which will attract speech-language pathologists, teachers and educational administrators, begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. with a complimentary lunch included in the conference fee.

Attendees are eligible to receive up to 6 hours of continuing education hours from ASHA. For more information and to download a registration pamphlet, visit www.ulm.edu/slp or call 318-342-1392.
