National Sports Symposium coming to ULM Feb. 19-20

An all-star cast of presenters, including several with Louisiana ties, will be on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe for the Summit of Strength & Conditioning and Sports Medicine leaders, Feb. 19-20.

The vision of ULM Hall of Famer Al Miller - a former tight end who would go on to become one of the top strength and conditioning coaches in the NFL - the event features a Who's Who" of presenters and represents a must for coaches for all disciplines and levels in the area.

"It is important to me to be able to give something back to a state and area that has helped me so much in my career," Miller said. "The focus of this event is training coaches at all levels, high school, junior high, and college, on athlete development, both male and female, and for all sports. For that you aren't going to find a better group to learn from, at a better price, and at this level of access. It will never happen again and is really a 'can't miss' event."

Miller, who started as a football coach at Lee Junior High School in Monroe became one of the most respected men in professional football. His friends include former head coach Dan Reeves, ESPN journalist Chris Mortensen, and NFL Vice President Ron Hill, all of whom are scheduled to give keynote speeches at the Summit.

An elite list of presenters, The Summit features something for everyone - coaches, athletic trainers, and individuals in the field of strength training. It will include methods for building and maximizing results in training programs, coaching strategies from champions in professional football, basketball, baseball, and golf, and prevention and treatment strategies for athletics-related injuries.

Included amongst the Louisiana ties are current New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Bill Johnson, head strength and conditioning coach of the Philadelphia Eagles Barry Rubin, and former LSU employees Dr. Mike Stone and Johnny Parker, a four-time Super Bowl Champion. Dr. Brett Cascio, an orthopedic surgeon with LSU Health Sciences Center, represents one of four speakers geared towards individuals interested in sports medicine related topics.
