ULM student captures state crown – again!

It was another history making moment for the University of Louisiana at Monroe as ULM sophomore Kelsi Crain was crowned Miss Louisiana 2010 by Miss Louisiana 2009 Katherine Putnam, a ULM senior, at the Monroe Civic Center Saturday night.
Nineteen-year-old Monroe native Crain, a sophomore kinesiology major at ULM, is the daughter of Tana and Creg Higdon. After being crowned, she said, "I feel so humbled and so excited to be standing here tonight."

She competed on the platform "Heart for the Arts" and said she hoped to raise awareness of the positive impact art makes in the lives of young people, as well as its intrinsic value in improving academics.

Crain, who performed a captivating Dance en Point for a packed house, was a preliminary fitness winner Thursday night. She was named "People's Choice" in a record-breaking Internet voting competition Saturday night.

Miss Dixie Gem Peach Lauren Abshier, 22, a preliminary fitness winner Friday night, was named first runner-up. Miss Monroe Hope Anderson, also a ULM student, was named second runner-up and won the Academic Award.
