ULM music professor composes original piece for 9/11 Memorial Concert

On Sunday, Sept. 11, the University of Louisiana at Monroe Division of Music will present a memorial concert at 3 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall marking the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Dr. Mel Mobley, associate professor of theory and composition in ULM's Division of Music, has composed a new work for the event, titled "Elegy 9.11."

"The School of Visual and Performing Arts is fortunate to have a composer of the caliber of Dr. Mobley," said Matthew James, associate dean of VAPA.

"The Division of Music had the privilege of performing the premier of his first opera, 'Sylvan Beach,' in the spring of 2010. He has a gift for capturing profound emotions in his music. I look forward to hearing his new composition for the 9/11 Memorial Concert."

Numerous Division of Music faculty and students will be involved in the performance, a solemn tribute to those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

Admission is free and open to the public.
