ULM National Champion Water Ski team hosts 2012 ULM Bayou Classic Sept 29-30

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s National Champion Water Ski Team will host the 2012 ULM Fall Bayou Classic Water Ski Tournament, Sept. 29-30.

The public is encouraged to attend and enjoy the competition, held on Bayou DeSiard.

Each day’s skiing will begin at 8 a.m. On Saturday, Sept. 29, men’s and women’s slalom, jump, and trick events will take place.

All competition skiing is expected to be completed on Saturday, with any remaining skiing to take place Sunday, Sept. 30.

There will be T-shirts, food, and drinks available for purchase during the events.

Visitors can find seating for the event on Bon Aire Drive next to the Anna Gray Noe Alumni Center.

Bleachers will be set up on Bayou DeSiard, and there will be ample parking near the seating area.

The Fall Bayou Classic, a conference tournament, is ULM Water Ski Team's premier home event.

ULM's team competes in the National Collegiate Water Ski Association (NCWSA) South Central Region.

Other schools in the conference include the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana State University, Baylor University, University of Texas, Texas State University, Texas A&M University, the University of Arkansas, and Mississippi State University.

Treina Landrum, director of recreational services, and ULM Water Ski Team Coach said, “We have a great lineup of skiers, and are looking forward to a strong turn out from the ULM students, faculty, staff, and community members at our tournament. People really enjoy the spectacular skiing they see from our team.” 

According to Landrum, spectators can expect to see some of the best water skiing in the world.

The ULM Water Ski Team leads all other Fall Bayou Classic competitors with the most world ranked and national champion skiers on their current roster.

“The university is really proud to have such a wonderful group of world class athletes,” continued Landrum.

“Our intention is to bring home another National Championship title in October.”

The ULM Water Ski Team holds 23 National Collegiate Water Ski Association Championship Titles; winning 23 of the 33 years the competition has been held.

Women’s Team:
Jenny Benjamin of London, England; Eleanor Benjamin of London, England; Makayla Clemons-Haw of Sacramento, Calif.; Carli Guyer of Pierson, Fla.; Maddison McCammon of Clermont, Fla.;  and Janice Stevens of Morrisburg, Ontario, Canada.

Men’s Team:
Jake Bridges of Ireland; Sergey Bushin of Novopolotsk, Belarus; James Earl of Solihul, England; Claudio Koestenberger of Sattendorf, Austria.
