ULM launches new virtual tour

The University of Louisiana at Monroe has added yet another feature to its growing list of technological advances—a campus virtual tour.

“We are continually exploring and implementing new ways to share the unique physical beauty of our campus, and the quality education ULM has to offer,” said Lisa Miller, assistant vice president for enrollment management.

“This virtual tour, created by one of our own, allows us to do both. Our goal is to entice prospective students and their parents to visit our campus and meet the people who make ULM what is.”

Created by Frank Sampognaro Jr. (BBA ’08), ULM’s new virtual tour, which can be found on the ULM homepage, guides visitors through various spots on campus, including in and around buildings, and the campus grounds.

“When creating the ULM virtual tour, I had to utilize my knowledge of photography, videography, and graphic design,” said Sampognaro.

“There were many hours spent over the summer at ULM, both in planning and creating elements for the tour.”

The tour’s vivid images capture everything from ULM’s most popular destinations, and student hang-outs, to inside looks of academic buildings, labs, and classrooms.

“I wanted to create a tour that really emphasized the quality of our university. The transformation over recent years has been incredible, and now there's a medium that can showcase the campus to both potential students and alumni,” he continued.

Sampognaro is currently pursuing his M.B.A at ULM. He said his ULM education provided him the knowledge to run a business and the preparation to strategically set himself apart.

“Marketing was my undergrad degree, and it still amazes me how much I pull from those learned resources.  Now at the end of my MBA, I can honestly say it was one of my best investments for my business. Classroom discussions of real world events, long nights spent on an ever-growing research paper, and group projects that force you to compromise, are paths for vital skills that students may or may not know they're gaining.  A ULM classroom allows you to be prepared for those real life challenges that come your way.”

The new online virtual tour is one of several new technology enhancements focused on the recruitment of students.

ULM's mobile app, developed in-house in 2011, provides a portable method for students to access much of the same information they currently access from their desktop or laptop computers.

The mobile app now includes a popular photo upload feature and classroom location finder. To learn more, visit ulm.edu/app
