B.1. What is the professional education unit at your institution and what is its relationship to other units at the institution that are involved in the preparation of professional educators?

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is comprised of four departments, all offering programs that prepare professionals for service in P-12 schools. The unit offers undergraduate degrees in 16 areas for initial teacher preparation along with a specific add-on plan in Early Childhood for elementary education majors. Candidates from the unit take courses in the Arts and Science Unit to gain credits in content specific areas. Candidates in the secondary education route have two advisors within the institution, one from Arts and Sciences and one within the CEHD unit. The advanced initial teacher preparation program includes four alternative certifications, Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degrees. Advanced unit programs include: the Master of Education (M.Ed) in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) with concentrations in 21 different areas, M.Ed in Educational Leadership, M.Ed. in Educational Leadership Technology, two Masters of Science (MS) degrees (School Counseling & School Psychology), in which candidates also take courses within the Arts and Science unit, and two Educational Doctorate (Ed.D) degrees (Curriculum and Instruction & Educational Leadership) offered collaboratively through the Louisiana Education Consortium (LEC) program, the partnership formed between ULM and neighboring Grambling State University and Louisiana Tech University.
