In 1987, the National Institute on Aging recognized ULM's excellence in aging by awarding the university funds to develop the first Center on Aging in Louisiana.
In 2022, The Louisiana Board of Regents approved the establishment of a new New institute titled "Gerontology Education, Research, and Outreach (GERO) Institute" at ULM. The primary aim of this institute is to promote research and professional education in Gerontology, and community outreach programs for the older generation.
Other than the GERO Institute, ULM also offers a Master's Program and a Graduate Certificate Program in Gerontology. Both programs are fully online programs. Contact the College of Business and Social Sciences for more information on these programs.
