
Dr. Michelle McEacharn, DBA, CPA, CIA, is Professor of Accounting at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where she is the George T. Walker Endowed Professor of Entrepreneurship. She serves as Faculty Chair for the ULM Accounting Program and Associate Dean for Academics in the ULM College of Business Administration. Dr. McEacharn earned her Doctorate of Business Administration with a major in Accounting and minors in Finance and Quantitative Analysis in 1994 from Louisiana Tech University and has been a member of the ULM faculty family since 1989.
Dr. McEacharn's current teaching interests are focused on governmental and not-for-profit, consolidations and acquisitions, and international accounting issues. Other teaching interests include introductory financial and intermediate accounting, and auditing. Dr. McEacharn was chosen as the Outstanding Educator for the Southwest Region of the American Accounting Association in 2008. She was also the Outstanding Professor for the ULM College of Business in 2004 and received the Outstanding Professor Award from the ULM Beta Gamma Sigma chapter in 2005.
The primary research interests of Dr. McEacharn currently center on statistical sampling in audits, eXtensible business reporting language (XBRL), and faculty issues related to family-related life events. She also directs a portion of her research efforts toward improvements in pedagogy and accounting program quality, as well as her original interest in the use of fuzzy set theory in auditing applications as investigated in her dissertation. She has published 13 journal articles and presented approximately 30 papers at various academic conferences. She also regularly provides workshops and other continuing education presentations through a variety of professional organizations.
On the local or regional level, Dr. McEacharn serves as the Research Trustee for the Monroe Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors and as a member of the Louisiana Society of Certified Public Accountants. On the national level, Dr. McEacharn has served as the President and as the Vice-President and General Program Chair for the Federation of Business Disciplines, after completing a three-year term on the FBD Executive Council as Secretary/Treasurer. For the American Accounting Association, another national professional accounting association, Dr. McEacharn has served as the President of the Gender Issues and Worklife Balance Section (2007), a member of the Annual Program Meeting Committee (2008) and the Education Issues Committee (2004-07), and as President of the Southwest Region (2003-05.)
