Who qualifies?

If you meet the following requirements, you qualify:

• You are a Louisiana resident.
• You have not enrolled in college in the last 2 years.
• You have some higher education experience from any 4-year or 2-year institution and no bachelor’s degree.

Can I study online or on-campus?

If you qualify for Compete LA, you can choose whichever method works best for you.

Most Online

Most of ULM’s online courses follow an 8-week schedule. This means you can study full-time while only taking two courses every 8 weeks. This also means you can start school at the beginning of any 8-week sessions.

• August 17 – October 7, 2022
• October 10 – December 6, 2022
• January 11 – March 8, 2023
• March 9 – May 9, 2023

On-Campus and Some Online

To be considered full-time, students should take 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters. Winter Session and Summer Sessions are optional. The $275 per credit hour applies for all semesters and sessions. ULM’s on-campus, in-person schedule is as follows:

• Fall Semester 2022: August 17 – December 6
• Winter Session 2022-23: December 12 – January 13
• Spring Semester 2023: January 11 – May 9
• Summer Session I 2023: May 30 – June 26
• Summer Session II 2023: July 5 – July 28

How many credit hours do I need to take? Do I have to study full-time?

You will need to take the courses and credit hours necessary for graduation in your degree path. Speak with your Compete LA Career Coach or ULM Advisor for details on the best degree path for your goals.
