Recent VAPA News

ULM inaugural Cultural Arts Fellowship recipient to exhibit work at June Art Crawl

The inaugural recipient of the Cultural Arts Fellowship is Jansyn Jenkins, a junior double majoring in ceramics and psychology at ULM. As a VAPA Cultural Arts Fellow, students are expected to contribute scholarship through creative works and extracurricular exhibitions/performances in city art spaces in partnership with a participating cultural arts organization. In Jansyn's case, this would be a partnership with the Black Creative Circle of North Louisiana. Jansyn's work will be exhibited in the Sugar Gallery (131 Art Alley, Monroe) upstairs studio from June 2 through June 15, and there will be an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. during the June Art Crawl on June 6.

ULM Visual and Performing Arts hires Vitus Shell as assistant professor of art in illustration

The University of Louisiana Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) is proud to announce the appointment of Vitus Shell as assistant professor of art in illustration. Shell is a mixed-media artist born in Monroe, LA. His works are geared toward the Black experience, giving agency to people from the Monroe community through powerful images of deconstructing, sampling, and remixing identity, civil rights, and contemporary Black culture.

ULM voice majors excel at state conference

Ten ULM Voice majors attended and participated in the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Conference and Student auditions on March 8th-9th at University of Louisiana Lafayette. They were highly successful in the student competition portion, singing in different styles of music and categorized according to their year of study. ULM music faculty members Dr. Nancy Carey, Mr. Justin Havard, Dr. Richad Seiler, and Dr. Claire Vangelisti traveled with them and participated in the conference in several capacities.
