The race begins at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at Selman Field located on Kansas Lane near Pecanland Mall. Participants should expect a uniquely zombie-themed experience.

"We are so excited to add this new twist to the obstacle course run, especially since the run is six days after the season premiere of 'The Walking Dead'!" said Laura Knotts, director of Student Life and Leadership at ULM.

"If you've ever wondered how you'd fair in the zombie apocalypse, register and find out. Volunteers will be in scary makeup, so let any children registering with you know that it might be spooky!"

During the race, participants will wear flag football belts.

In order to "survive," runners must cross the finish line with at least one flag left. Volunteer zombies will be lurking along the way, trying to retrieve the flags of each runner.

Knotts reminds participants that unlike other zombie-themed events, the "infection" will not spread from volunteer zombies to the runners.

"If you lose all your flags, you do not become a zombie," she said. "Runners won't have to try to take other people's flags. It takes a little bit for that infection to set in, so don't give up; go for the finish line!"

Registration dates/rates are as follows:

• Sept. 1 - 19: $30 general public; $25 ULM (students, faculty, and staff)

• Sept. 20 – Oct. 18: $35 general public; $30 ULM (students, faculty and staff)

• Oct. 19 - $40 all registrants

T-shirts will be included with registration packets. Participants are asked to register early, as sizes are limited and will be allotted only as available.

Registrants will be emailed when packets are ready for pickup. All proceeds from the event go to SGA campus improvement projects.
