The Masters of Arts in Teaching (M. A. T.) - Elementary Education (Grades 1-5) Alternative Certification is a 36-hour program. It allows individuals already possessing a Bachelors degree in a field outside of education to pursue Louisiana teacher certification.

Program Admission

In addition to the requirements for admission to the ULM Graduate School, applicants for admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching degree program must meet all of the following criteria:

• Have a 2.5 actual/adjusted grade point average on all Undergraduate coursework.
  
  
• Completed 20 hours of classroom observations in the area of certification along with a written narrative.
  
  
• Passing Score on Praxis I test (Reading 174, Writing 173, Math 172)
  Note: The Praxis I can be replaced with a composite ACT score of 22 or combined SAT score of 1030; however, if any part of the Praxis I has been taken this option is forfeited.)
  
  
• Passing Score on Praxis II Content Test in the area of certification being pursued.
  
  
• Completed a TEACH Delta Region application packet.
  
  
• Candidates pursuing Secondary or Multiple Level Certification must possess 30 hours of coursework in the content area in which they are pursuing certification.
