The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Multiple Levels Grades K-12 is offered as a totally online route to earning an advanced degree and initial Louisiana teacher certification.  Successful completion of this program leads to Louisiana certification in Art, Music, or Foreign Language.

This program is part of a Teacher Certification Reciprocity agreement with other states which accept completion of Louisiana approved teacher education preparation programs from regionally accredited institutions as eligibility for certification in their state.

Program Admission

1. Bachelor’s Degree with 2.5 undergraduate GPA; must have 21 credit hours of coursework in the content subject area. Courses must be 100 level or above with grade of C or better. Applicants can enter with 12 credit hours, but must have remaining 9 credit hours before program completion.

2. 20 hours of classroom observations in your area of interest along with a written narrative

3. Complete ONE of the following:

  • ACT score of 22 or better
  • SAT combined Verbal & Math score 1030 or better
  • Praxis I scores: Reading 176, Writing 175, Math 175 or better 

4. GRE-combined verbal plus quantitative score of 750 is required

5. Praxis II required score varies based on the test taken. Middle school content exams are not accepted.

6. Complete application for admission to ULM Graduate School

7. Complete application for TEACH Delta Region

8. Complete an interview with program staff/faculty OR provide Intent to Hire letter from the employing      school district

 

Program Description

In order to complete the 36-credit hour program in 14 months, candidates must begin the program in June and progress through the program in the prescribed sequence with guidance from their academic advisor.

NOTE: All candidates have up to three (3) years to complete the program.  Candidates are required to subscribe to TaskStream in order to document their progression. All programs culminate in a supervised site-based internship that focuses on demonstrated competencies in the chosen field. Candidates must maintain Graduate School eligibility to continue in the program. TEACH Delta Region stipends are available for a limited number of applicants who must meet additional requirements including attendance at an on-campus Summer Institute.
