ULM Professor of Pharmacology receives $46,000 grant

Dr. Paul W. Sylvester, Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has been awarded a $46,000 research grant by the Louisiana Cancer and Lung Trust Fund to study the chemoprotective effects of various forms of vitamin E against breast cancer.

The research supported by this grant will provide essential information necessary for understanding the potential health benefits of specific vitamin E compounds in preventing and/or reducing the risk of breast cancer in women.

In recognition of his contributions to the field of breast cancer research, Dr. Sylvester has been invited to speak at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Global Network of Molecular and Cell Biology (UNESCO-MCBN) Conference in Malaysia this July. Sylvester's presentation will focus on the molecular biological mechanisms of vitamin E in the prevention of disease.
