Louisiana Geriatric Society conference scheduled
for June 8 9
The ULM Gerontology Program will host the annual mid-year conference of the Louisiana Geriatric Society June 8 9 at the Student Union Building.
The conference will begin on Friday, June 8 with registration at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:45 p.m., the presentation of gerontology awards, and a keynote address by Endowed Professor of Gerontology Chris Johnson on “A New View of Emotions and Alzheimer’s Disease.”
The conference will continue Saturday, June 9 from 8 a.m. 3 p.m. with a continental breakfast, followed by these presentations: “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: Issues and Challenges,” “Communication Disorders in the Elderly,” “Issues Related to Oral Health in the Older Population,” “Pet Therapy,” and “Culture Change in Nursing Homes.”
CEU approval is being sought from professional associations for nursing home administrators, social workers, physicians, activity directors, dental hygienists, and nurses. Professional groups can monitor the approval of CEU credit for their profession by going to: www.ulm.edu/gerontology/lgs.html. Other professionals will receive a certificate of participation.
The Louisiana Geriatric Society’s mission is to promote high quality, comprehensive and accessible care for Louisiana's older population, including those who are chronically ill and disabled. The organization's goal is to provide leadership to health care professionals, policy makers and the public by developing, implementing and advocating programs in patient care, research, professional and public education, and public policy.

The early registration fee is $60 if submitted by May 30; afterwards it will be $70. The registration fee includes meals, conference participation, and handouts.
