ULM volleyball team volunteers at "Celebrate
the Child Day"

The ULM Warhawk volleyball team and staff spent Tuesday afternoon making some new friends with children living at Parkview Apartments in Monroe. The "Celebrate the Child Day" event was hosted by the Volunteers of America Northeast Louisiana and Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana.

The Warhawks and over 20 organizations local to the Monroe area helped to celebrate by creating an encouraging atmosphere. The participating agencies worked to demonstrate hands-on family activities that help parents nurture their children. This was a community collaborative project designed to discourage child abuse, demonstrate the importance of valuing children and supporting parents.

The Warhawks spent their time demonstrating volleyball skills, playing games and interacted with the children in the community. The event was held during the Week of the Young Child (April 22-28).

"We enjoyed the ability to work with the children if only for a short time," said junior Ilima Sam Fong. "I hope we influenced a few of them to take interest in the sport of volleyball."

The Warhawks will also be working at upcoming community service projects Dixie Diehard baseball and a volleyball demonstration at a local middle school sports banquet.
