G. Dale Welch, professor of gerontology and sociology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, was chosen president-elect of the Louisiana Geriatric Society at the organization’s annual meeting in Lafayette. His term of service begins in 2007 and continues until 2009.

One of Welch’s immediate responsibilities is to plan and coordinate the annual mid-year LGS conference, which will be held on ULM’s campus June 8 – 9.

Welch has previously served as head of the ULM’s gerontology and sociology programs, but recently returned to full-time teaching and working with the LGS and other professional organizations that provide care for the older population and enhance educational experiences for professionals serving the older population.

The Louisiana Geriatric Society’s mission is to promote high quality, comprehensive and accessible care for Louisiana's older population, including those who are chronically ill and disabled. The organization's goal is to provide leadership to health care professionals, policy makers and the public by developing, implementing and advocating programs in patient care, research, professional and public education, and public policy.
