KXUL, 91.1-FM, the student-operated radio station licensed to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, is now available online on the iTunes player, under the listings for College/University radio stations. Millions of users have iTunes installed on their computers, and the iTunes store recently had its 10 billionth (yes – billion) download.
Of KXUL’s three streaming formats, the highest quality stream was picked up by iTunes. “That stream (called ACC+ SHOUTcast) provides better clarity than the familiar MP3 streams, and has been online since 2005,” said Willer, adding, “but iTunes only recently adopted the more advanced technology.” KXUL’s stream requires iTunes version 9 to be picked up, and is available free Mac and PCs from the Apple Web site. ULM joins about 143 college or university webcasters that are currently listed on iTunes.
