The second day of the conference will be a Healthcare Professionals Alzheimer's Conference featuring Dr. Cornelia Beck from University of Arkansas Medical Center; Dr. Ken Sakauye, director of geriatric psychiatry at LSU Health Science Center School of Medicine in New Orleans and Ochsner Foundation Hospital; Dr. Chris Johnson, professor of gerontology at ULM's Institute of Gerontology; Dr. Bonnie Hatchett, the Endowed Chair in Gerontology at ULM; Dr. Jay Bulot, assistant professor of gerontology at ULM; and faculty from ULM's Institute of Gerontology. Its focus will be on diagnostic and treatment issues. Topics covered will include pharmacologic interventions, public policy issues, psychological/environmental causes of behavior disturbance, caregiving among African American elderly and nursing care for dementia patients. The healthcare professional conference can host approximately 200 people. The cost will be $80 plus an additional $40 cost for CEU's (if desired) for the professionals. C.A.B.L.E. (Communities Acting to Benefit Louisiana's Elderly) will host a Conference on Aging, Thursday and Friday, September 16-17. Seniors are invited to attend an educational resource fair at Fant-Ewing Coliseum Sept. 16 and professionals are invited to attend an educational seminar September 17.
